This new recipe format is the right width to cut and paste on a 4"x6" recipe card.

Apple Cake and Sauce

1/2 c. butter
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 eggs
4 c. diced apples
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
Nuts, if desired

Cream butter and sugar. Stir in eggs. Blend dry ingredients and add to mixture. Add apples and nuts. Mixture will be thick. Pour into greased 9xl3-inch cake pan. Bake 35 minutes at 350 degrees, then reduce heat to 325 degrees and bake 20 minutes longer.

SAUCE:

1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. sugar
2 c. boiling water
1/2 c. brown sugar
4 T. butter
4 T. cornstarch
2 tsp. vanilla

In a saucepan, mix sugars, comstarch and salt. Gradually stir in boiling water and cook until thickened. Stir constantly. Remove from heat. Add butter and vanilla. Serve hot over apple cake.
